Oh Christmas tree {s}!

Christmas tree traditions...
they make the season come alive...
traditions and trees.

and this year we added a new tradition...
We added a second tree in our kitchen/tv room!
I have always wanted to have a second tree...
Why I waited so long-I don't know-
because it serves such a wonderful purpose...
All those wonderful ornaments that you collect over the years...
that have been gifts or made special for you...
there comes a time when you realize not all of them fit on just one tree...
especially when you begin to feel a calling

yes, a calling...
towards an all white ornament tree

filled with feathers
and silver ribbon
and crystal and birds....
Suddenly, that special football team ornament gift...
well, you remember that song from Seasame Street...

"one of these things is not like the others..."

...it just needs a different home.

Over the years I have had to draw a hard line as
I grew to love all white and silver and cyrstal sparkles...
But it doesn't mean I don't still love
the ornament with the painted macaroni shells with the adorable 3rd grade photo...
or the plastic Barbie ornaments...
or the sweet baby Jesus made from a peanut in a handmade paper and pipe cleaner cradle...
If only I had thought of this slender tree idea sooner...
The kids had a blast decorating "their" own tree
with all the ornaments from their childhood.
And mom has her all white and silver tree...
Peace on earth...
Goodwill in the household...
The Reason for the Season...

  1. So pretty! I love both trees, and especially like the JOY sign on top of the ladder. Great idea ! The tree in the kitchen area is just the right size and you got me thinkin!! Maybe I will look for a wee tree after the holidays and snag one on sale for a corner in my house that would be just right!! :) Your home is very nice! enjoy the season!

  2. I love both of your trees! Such a good idea. I also love the words in your tree. I want to do that this year, probably putting up the tree this weekend. So nice to visit with you for a minute! Everything you've done is perfectly beautiful!

  3. Oh, both trees are so beautiful! Last Christmas, I thought maybe this year I would put up a second tree in my family room area, but then I ended up selling my large home and downsized to a much smaller place; can't see any room at present for a second tree except for maybe a kitchen countertop. I had actually been thinking about doing an all white (or maybe an all gold) tree in my former family room. I'm glad I did not end up buying a white frosted tree on clearance at the end of the season last year, I'd have had to move it to - no room! Where one has the space, I think this is an absolutely wonderful idea, and how cool that your kids enjoyed decorating "their" tree. Reliving those precious stored up memories every year is one of the best parts of the holidays. I find myself now with so many ornaments that mean so much collected over the years, I cannot imagine parting with a single one, so unless I can rotate them out every Christmas season or other, they will be so lonely in their boxes, waiting for a space to shine on a single tree! Happy Holidays and a Blessed New Year to you and your family. I greatly enjoy your blog.

  4. Love your trees ... wish I had room for a slender tree in our kitchen. I have come down to that in the living room but not enough room for all my ornaments on that little tree.
    Christmas Blessings.

    1. Thank you for visiting Audrey. I hope you can find a place for your ornaments around the house anyway. I went ahead and put some of my extras on a silver tray with a candle...they are just so fun and festive to have out. have a wonderful weekend.-aimee

  6. Aimee, that's exactly why we have always had a second tree since we had kids growing up. Now that they have all married and taken their own special ornaments with them I still love a second tree. One more elegant, similar to yours and one full of whimsy. Our candy trees, as the grands call it. I do have a few old ornaments with special memories that I tuck into both. One being a homemade ornaments our cousins made for my sisters and I one year when we visited them in OH. It had mode lodged pictures of our dad and his brothers and parents. Hold a special place in my heart because I never knew my dad. He died when I was only 9 months old. Both of your trees are lovely and your home looks gorgeous as well. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

  8. It is a great idea! I have had two trees (actually more but didn't put them all up this year) for years and the other one is my husbands with all his cartoon characters and action figures and Dr. Seuss on it. It is in the same room as my vintage tree, complete with tinsel, but it seems to work!
