happiness is....a good friend and a good cup of coffee

a good friend refreshes the soul....
...welcoming you into her beautiful home with open arms after weary travels.

How wonderful to create a space that immediately invites you to relax and feel at home. It has fascinated me that this seems to come so easily to some people.  Their homes have an aura about them that fills you with a sense of awe and comfort.
As I have gotten to know and experience this gift of hospitality first hand through my fortune of having some amazingly gifted friends, it has occured to me that it is more a "practice" than a special gift.  It is simply the practice of sharing what you love and taking God's commandment of "treating others as you would want to be treated" to heart.  Sharing your best items, using your best china, cooking from scratch, and most of all, sitting and enjoying the simplest cup of coffee in your pajamas and catching up on life.

Bottom line, it is about letting people "in" and enjoying the process of going to a little extra effort for them.   As I enjoy this morning with one of my dearest lifelong friends, I am refreshed and am hopeful that I too can begin the practice of welcoming friends into my new future home.

  1. Life is God's greatest gift to us. The people in our lives are God's second greatest gift.

  2. yes, it truly is about letting people "in." Being real, letting our guards down and loving people as they are, as we are. Thank you for this!
