Spring-time and Easter in Texas...
The blue skies, fluffy clouds, cool breezes and warm sunshine
are enough to awaken Spring fever in even the most reluctant spirits.
The weather this Easter weekend was exactly this blissful.
And if you are a "picker" or a "junker" or a connoisseur of re-purposing vintage--
the combination of perfect weather and Round Top markets
will definitely make you feel like you have died and gone to heaven.
I have always longed to see Round Top, Texas.
Rumors of acres and acres of tents and tables of collections
of knick-knacks
and treasures
and shabby
and chic
and junk
and gypsy
--they are all true!
It is exactly like everything it is claimed to be and more.
The entire stretch of the towns of Round Top and Warrenton become a gigantic market place.
All you need is a good pair of comfortable shoes,
and a budget...because once you start...you will find it hard to stop.
Here was my prize find:
What are they??
Beautiful vintage wood blocks with symmetrical holes drilled into them....
Give up?
These are vintage sugar molds from old Louisiana sugar mills.
"Sugar molds generally take the form of a long, solid block with a series of depressions into which raw sugar cane syrup could be poured. Once it dried, the syrup formed raw brown sugar cones, which was how sugar was once sold to consumers. The cones were easy to transport and store, and more refined sugar processing methods had not yet been developed." (ehow--history of sugar molds.)
And here is how I got to display my prize find on Easter Sunday.
I filled it with a set of 12 votives...for a raw natural centerpiece.
Happy Easter Spring Season!
